29-31 May 2020
The Denmark Festival of Voice would like to share our current response to the COVID-19 situation. We want to support everyone doing all they can to minimise the transmission, especially amongst the more vulnerable members of our community.
We are also following the Australian Government and medical authorities advice preventing non-essential, organised gatherings of 500 or more people in static indoor and outdoor events and the ban on gatherings of more than 100 people in indoor locations.
This means that we need to cancel the Denmark Festival of Voice in May 2020 in its current form. This is a deeply sad situation for all of us, and one which may impact on our festival communities’ sense of connection and wellbeing, but we hope that everyone understands that we are obliged to do this. Our funding bodies have been terrific in prioritising what is an international health crisis, whilst also supporting regional organisations and communities to find ways to continue or postpone delivery of events and activities. We hope that a period of ‘hibernation’ sees us coming out with extra colour later in the year, or in 2021.
We are also currently exploring possibilities to hold a space for the Festival and its community on-line, and will keep you updated. Musicians may already know about https://ilostmygig.net.au/ as one of a number of creative initiatives springing up. Our creatives and creative organisations such as ours will be hit hard by the continuing uncertainty and cancellation of events. We’ll do what we can, and keep you in the loop.
In the meantime, rest well, keep singing, telling stories, speaking poems and words, and stay connected in the web of the heart.
