Grab a beer and brace yourself. The Albany Shantymen roar out foot stomping, heart pounding songs from the days sail. They bring alive the working songs that were the rhythm of the tall ships that sailed our coasts since the early 1600’s. 16 local men, many of whom had never sung before, give the group it’s authentic raw masculine sound. The group formed in March 2016, singing a mixture of traditional shanties and some of their own new songs of the sea.
It has been great playing festivals and recording cd’s, but the best thing about the Albany Shantymen is that they are just a bunch of blokes singing and having a laugh. Because it’s obvious they enjoy it so much, the audience gets swept along and people seem to have a great time. You’re welcome to sing along!
