In “Dear Prime Minister” volunteers will read protest letters as an act of witness. The letters denounce Australia’s offshore detention of asylum seekers and include writing, poetry and artworks by refugees. Since July 2016 Ruth Halbert has been mailing them daily to the Prime Minister and will continue until she has written one for every man, woman and child in offshore detention. The contents of the letters are published at www.ruthhalbert.com.au/dear-prime-minister. In “Dear Prime Minister” the refugees’ voices of protest are re-expressed via handwritten letters and through the act of reading aloud.
