Community Arts Network presents Bilya Kep Waangkiny (River Water Stories), a mesmerising performance by Noongar poets accompanied by live music. Bringing together new and known poetic voices, the performance weaves through verse musings and deeply personal stories from the Avon River, the Wheatbelt and beyond.
Featuring poetry performances by Janet Kickett, Yvonne Kickett, Deborah Moody, Alf Taylor, Rosalie Quartermaine and Daniel Hansen.
CAN’s Bilya Kep Waagnkiny performance was born out of a series of poetry workshops held with Noongar adults and Elders in 2017. Members of the Northam poetry workshops were then joined by more poets for a small tour of intimate community performances at the York Festival, the Quairading Town Hall and the Northam Link Theatre. Venturing south for the Denmark Festival of Voice in 2018, the performance brings new poems and musical collaborations in a unique showcase of varied poetic voices speaking of family, humour, politics, the stolen generation, Country and love.
